How to Apply for Financial Aid at New York University

 

There are financial assistance options available for students who wish to go to New York University. They can submit a FAFSA form or try New York’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).

 

Requirements

 

As with all applications, there are certain requirements that you must possess to qualify. For students considering federal aid, you:

 

• must be a citizen of the United States.

• must not have any drug-related convictions.

• must register with Selective Service if you are male and between 18 to 25 years of age.

• must have a Social Security number.

• must be a high school graduate or a GED passer.

• must be accepted or already enrolled in a school that provides federal student aid.

 

If you are planning to apply for TAP, you should:

• have New York as your legal residence.

• have an academic average of at least C.

• have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

• have a load of at least 12 units for each semester.

• be able to prove financial need.

 

Programs

 

It is now time to take a look at the various choices that are available to you.

 

1. NYU Scholarship Programs. The university has in-house scholarship programs that it offers to its students. There are also scholarships offered per department.  

 

Among the university programs included are:

• Scholarships provided by the organization Phi Theta Kappa

• ARCH

• Paths to Peace

• Lewis Rudin City Scholars

• AnBryce Scholarships

 

Departments offering scholarships are:

• The College of Nursing

• The Tisch School of the Arts

• The College of Arts and Sciences

• The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development

• The Gallatin School of Individualized Study

 

2. NYU Financing Assistance. In case you do not qualify for TAP, you may still try the following alternatives:

 

PLUS Loan Program. Parents can take a loan for their undergraduate children.

Fixed Payment Plan. Students get a fixed rate if they prepay for up to four years of tuition and other fees.

Tuition Pay Plan. Students can take interest-free loans which they pay for on a monthly basis.

Deferred Payment. Students have a whole semester to settle their college bills.

Tuition Stabilization Plan. This program allows you to enrol at a set tuition rate.

 

3.  External Scholarships. New York University also accepts scholarships from external sources. Some of these are:

 

• Walmart Scholarships

• Coca-Cola Scholars

• Dell Scholars Program

• The New York Times Scholarship Program

• Scholarships from the Jackie Robinson Foundation

• Gates Millennium Scholarships

 

Application Steps

 

Here are the steps you need to follow when applying for NYU financial assistance:

 

• Fill out a FAFSA web worksheet and a basic application form. Check out the FAFSA website for other items that you need to submit along with these forms.

• Take note that for the FAFSA web worksheet you should either submit online and request for a PIN, or submit a printed page that contains your signature.

• Indicate in your application that it is to be forwarded to New York University. The university’s code number is 002785.
